Detective Cafe “Progress”
探偵カフェ プログレス
At Detective Cafe “Progress” in Ikebukuro, unusual dishes such as succulent seared crocodile tongue and cactus namul meet tailored signature cocktails and immersive detective experiences.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Step through the door into Detective Cafe “Progress,” tucked inside an Ikebukuro commercial building, and you enter a relaxed space anchored by a bar counter. Staffed by active private investigators, the venue pairs unusual culinary curiosities with an inventive drinks lineup that breaks away from routine bar outings.
Among the dishes, the variety of crocodile cuts immediately stands out. Lightly seared crocodile tongue, remarkably tender and gelatinous without any gaminess, is popular served as a snack or over a bowl of rice. The rest of the food menu piques curiosity just as much, featuring whole crocodile arm stew, seared tongue tossed into garlic-heavy peperoncino pasta, and cactus namul dressed with seasoned dashi soy sauce and sesame oil.
Complementing the distinctive food is an extensive cocktail and spirits list. Alongside house recipes like yuzu gin and basil vodka, the bar serves nostalgic sweet creations inspired by Japanese snacks, as well as bespoke character drinks available by advance reservation. During evening bar hours, guests can try their hand at detecting hidden listening bugs or lifting fingerprints, making for a lively night punctuated by insider detective stories.
